FFL's College Outreach Program Proves Sarah Weddington, Roe v. Wade Court
Wrong

"Twenty-nine years ago Sarah Weddington successfully argued before the
Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade that a woman could not complete their college
education if she were pregnant. Today Feminists for Life is working on
college campuses to prove them wrong," said FFL President Serrin Foster.

One out of five abortions are performed on a college woman. "Lack of
housing, child care, maternity coverage and support from those women count
on most contribute to the ongoing national tragedy," said Ms. Foster.
"If she doesn't have a place to live after the baby is born, day care or
insurance, had no income, and she is abandoned by those she counts on the
most, it doesn't feel like much of a choice."

Recognizing the critical need for practical resources for pregnant and
parenting students, Feminists for Life has launched a nationwide
initiative to ensure that college students have the resources they need to
make life-affirming choices. Through its College Outreach Program, FFL
provides pregnancy resource kits to college health clinics, students,
advisors and counselors across the country, and leads on-campus
discussions on developing practical resources for pregnant and parenting
students on college campuses. This year FFL's striking ad series have
appeared on campuses nationwide, sparking challenges by students to the
status quo.

On January 10, Serrin Foster, president of FFL, spoke to the Women in
Politics Institute at American University following presentations earlier
in the week from both Justice Sandra Day OConnor and NARALs Kate
Michelman. Students applauded FFL's women-centered initiatives to address
the root causes that contribute to abortion, and willingness to work with
those on both sides of the debate.

Vice President Sally Winn spoke firsthand about her experience as a mother
of two while in college. "I was pro-choice at the time, and it brings me
to tears now when I think how flippantly I made the decision to have
Emily," she told students. "At times you think you can't do it, but then
you find with each step you can."

"The 70's women's movement decided that women had to pass as men to make
it in the workplace and in school. Feminists for Life tells women that
you can overcome challenges -- and succeed with your child by your side --
and works to make institutional changes that support the decision to
combine motherhood with a career," said Ms. Foster.

Ms. Foster will also be speaking again on Wednesday, January 16 on the
campus of the Catholic University of America. She will be delivering her
lecture "The Feminists Case Against Abortion" in Caldwell Auditorium at
7:00 pm, which will be free and open to the public. Foster's speech was
recently recognized in "Women's Rights," part of a series entitled "Great
Speeches in History" for high schools and public libraries.

FFL Vice President Sally Winn will train pro-life collegian leaders
through workshops at both the American Collegians for Life Annual
Conference, Saturday, January 19 at Georgetown University, and the 2002
Cardinal O'Connor Conference on Life Monday, January 21, also on the
Georgetown campus. Ms. Winn will also present "Refuse to Choose:
Reclaiming Feminism" to the Washington Semester Program at American
University on Friday, January 25. Winn speaks from experience. She had
two daughters while in college.

Norma McCorvey Featured in Nationwide Pro-Life TV Campaign

Dallas, TX -- Norma McCorvey, the former "Jane Roe" of the landmark case
that led to the 1973 Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortion has made it
her life's work to overturn that ruling.

Soon, she will take her message to the airwaves.

Norma McCorvey of Dallas and two other one-time catalysts in the
pro-abortion movement have filmed a pro-life television spot that is
scheduled to air nationally later this month.

Pro-life advocates call the national television campaign "Shake the
Nation."

McCorvey, 54, was not available for interviews because she has been ill,
said San Antonio lawyer Allan E. Parker, her attorney. However, Parker
said the television spots demonstrate a growing sophistication in the
pro-life movement at a crucial juncture in the abortion debate.

The 29th anniversary of the Roe decision is Jan. 22. Since the ruling,
McCorvey has contended she was not informed of alternatives to and the
consequences of the abortion. She didn't have an abortion at the time.

Appearing with McCorvey in the new 30-second spot are Sandra Cano, the
lead plaintiff in Doe v. Bolton, the lesser-known companion case to Roe v.
Wade, and Bernard Nathanson, co-founder of the National Abortion Rights
Action League.

The commercial featuring McCorvey is the second in a series that started
Sept. 4. The first featured babies shaking rattles on The Mall in
Washington in front of the Supreme Court building. A judge bangs a gavel,
a newspaper headline announces the Roe v. Wade decision and the babies
begin to disappear.

Emmy Winner and Feminists for Life Honorary Chair Patricia Heaton
"Revealed"

Patricia Heaton, who is best known for her role as Debra on the CBS hit
comedy series, "Everybody Loves Raymond," was recently interviewed by host
Jules Asner on E! Television's "Revealed." For the past two years, Heaton
has been awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role in a
Comedy Series. She also serves as Honorary Chair of Feminists for Life of
America.

Heaton was asked about her first Emmy acceptance speech when she thanked
her mother for "letting me out because life is really amazing." She
responded, "Since my mother passed away, I wanted to somehow make a
tribute to her. The fact that I was standing on that stage was only
possible because she had me. The greatest gift you can give someone is
their life."

Heaton explained why it is so important for her to be involved as FFL's
Honorary Chair. "I felt it was important to be a part of solutions for
women who would like to keep the baby, but they have a boyfriend, husband
or parents telling them they are going to cut them out of their lives, so
they have nobody else to turn to." She added, "It comes down to
supporting people and stepping out and affirming that life is good."

Heaton recognized that "it is a very unpopular position to hold in
Hollywood." But she also recognized how uncomfortable people are with
abortion. "There are a lot of people out here who say they are pro-choice
but say `Although I would never have an abortion myself.' So I guess there
are a lot of people who see that being pro-life as being judgmental, and
people don't want to pass judgment on those that had an abortion. It is
very hard to pass judgment because women are put in a very difficult
position, especially if they are not married and they are young."

Reflecting on her own experience she added, "And it is scary. You know,
when I got pregnant the first time, my husband and I were trying to have
kids. We had planned it. Got pregnant. When I found out, I gasped,
because I knew that it was going to change my life irrevocably. There's
no going back."

Heaton believes that "women who experience an unplanned pregnancy also
deserve unplanned joy."

Like the early American feminists who opposed abortion, Feminists for Life
works to systematically eliminate the root causes that drive women to
abortion by facilitating practical solutions. For more information about
